Introduction to…Opera Warwick

Posted by: Ben Hamilton    Tags:      Posted date:  September 12, 2011  |  No comment

OperaWarwick is a society for all those who love opera or are looking for performance and creative production experience at Warwick. We are arguably the most innovative student opera society in the country and are doing more than most professional companies to bring opera right into the 21st Century.

We’re going through an exciting time following the sell-out successes of the two Mozart masterpieces, The Magic Flute and The Marriage of Figaro in the Warwick Art Centre main theatre. With the student translated, completely updated production of Hansel & Gretel set for performance in January, we hope to continue this strong, professional reputation.

However, OpWa is not just for singers. We provide for instrumentalists, directors, producers, set designers, marketers, creative writers, technicians, and those who just like to watch a bit of opera, a fantastic opportunity to indulge their passion.

Come along to the OpWa Freshers Open Meeting 2011 on Friday 7th October at 7.00pm in The Music Centre.  Meet the society exec, like-minded OpWa members, and let us know what you want from OpWa.

Can’t wait to see you all and toi, toi toi for the coming year!

Hansel & Gretel 2011: Auditions for Autumn Cast

Be a part of Opera Warwick’s production of Humperdinck’s seminal Hansel & Gretel in the Warwick Art Centre main theatre in January 2012. Sharply updated with a new English translation written by Opera Warwick with Kit Hesketh-Harvey of Kit and the Widow and comedy Prom fame, this magical story about poverty and greed is ever applicable to our own era.

Double-cast to provide more student opportunities, this production will be a challenging yet hugely rewarding experience.  With the Summer Cast already in place, we are looking for another set of enthusiastic and dynamic singers to bring this piece to life!

For more information and to register your interest, see the Audition Facebook Page

And we suggest you come along to the OpWa Freshers Open Meeting 2011 to chat about this exciting opportunity over a pint.
